I see it time and time again, we went with a cheaper contractor and my project turned out horrible. There are many reasons why customers select a contractor, most of the time its price driven, which is the absolute wrong way to go, other times its a trust factor. You feel comfortable with a contractor and they have been referred and verified online.
In my opinion you should go with the higher priced contractor. I'm sure you are scratching your head right now saying, "That's Crazy" the truth is the higher priced contractor usually is in compliance with all local city and state regulations and probably pays taxes, worker's comp and liability insurance. Lastly, the higher priced contractor pays his employees above average resulting in a happy team which equates to quality workmanship. I understand wanting to get a good price, but just keep this in mind when selecting a contractor for your project. Here at California Flooring Service, we pride ourselves in being an above board company and being fully licensed, bonded and insured.
Going with the cheapest contractor can have its serious consequences. These guys cheat the system by not having worker's comp, or liability insurance or even the proper license. They will also use inferior installation products and cut many corners. You do get what you pay for.
